Do you think spring will come at last? The sun sure is welcome and the cows have just started their pasture migration so I'm hopeful...
The transplants are growing well in the greenhouse. We've seeded onions, leeks, shallots, lettuce, cole crops, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, celery and celeriac, swiss chard, and more. Next week we plan to do our first transplanting including soil trials to see which mixes available in New Brunswick will perform the best.
Here is a photo of our germination room with sweet potatoes sprouting under the germination table.
We've made some improvements in the greenhouse too. We installed a second hand oil furnace which kicks in when the wood stove does not keep up. This along with an alarm system that will ring my phone if the temperature gets too hot or too cold, has helped a lot. It allows us to sleep in our bed at night which is very much appreciated! Last year Kirsten and I alternated sleeping in the greenhouse to stoke the fire and be sure it stayed warm enough. That was fun for a night or two but we like our bed much better...
Lastly, for all our customers from last year who want to continue with the program this year, we would like to ask you to sign up again soon so we know how many boxes are still left and don't have to turn anyone away. Thank you to all who have signed up already - both new customers and returning customers!
