Summer Again?

Posted on by Tim Livingstone

It sure is great to see the sun again!  Hope to see a lot more of it.  We have lots of good news and a little bad news this week.  Many crops are doing well in spite of the weather, but unfortunately we lost the new beehive that I started about two weeks ago.  I'm not sure what went wrong and my brother (the bee man) is on vacation so we'll have to wait to find out.  The two established hives are continuing to do well and the bees are doing a great job on the farm.

Sweet corn is ready to harvest so we look forward to sending it the boxes and having it at the stand this week.  Bruce has been eagerly waiting to pick it and was very pleased with his first ear...

Even though the squash was seeded later than ever before, there is a lot of squash coming. Bees are doing a terrific pollination job and lots of fruit is on the way.

Here is a photo of Buttercup squash.  This seems to be the most popular squash variety in the area.

Another popular squash especially with Simply for Life clients is the spaghetti squash.  For those unfamiliar with it, it has a string like texture and looks a little like spaghetti noodles when on the plate - just a lot healthier with less carbs!

The pigs continue to grow well and can be seen here loving their new pasture.  They are well over 100 pounds by now and full of energy and fun.  Of all the animals on the farm, I think the pigs have the most personality.
